Support for Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD) and Behavior Challenges
It’s normal for kids to act out sometimes—but for some children, defiant or aggressive behavior happens often and doesn’t go away. These children may have Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD). Parents often feel frustrated, exhausted, or unsure how to manage frequent arguing, temper tantrums, or rule-breaking, and may worry about how it affects relationships at home, school, and with peers.
ODD is marked by a consistent pattern of angry, irritable, and defiant behavior. Children may:
-
Frequently lose their temper or get annoyed easily
-
Argue with adults or refuse to follow instructions
-
Blame others for their mistakes
-
Act spitefully or vindictively
Symptoms often start between ages 2 and 3 and can continue into the teen years. ODD often co-occurs with ADHD or can develop after early childhood trauma, making conflicts more frequent and challenging.
